Looking for an authentic getaway in the heart of the Cathar countryside? Our spacious 180 m2 family home in Fanjeaux, a remarkable medieval town, is ideal for a family with children or a group of friends. You'll love its cosy atmosphere, its vast rooms and nooks and crannies combining family heirlooms and modern touches, high ceilings, fireplaces and original floor tiles, ideal for a week's stay or a longer teleworking project (Wi-Fi networks). Renovated in 2023 with an eco-responsible approach, its 400-year-old walls and interior patio provide a natural coolness in summer and a cosy cocoon in winter.

Nearby you can discover all the wonders of the region: the Cité de Carcassonne, the Cathar castles of Lastours, Saissac, Puivert and Monségur, and the abbeys of Saint-Papoul and Villelongue. Castelnaudary, with its Canal du Midi, is a great place to explore the countryside by bike. Mirepoix, with its medieval covered market, comes alive every Monday morning with a huge market. Toulouse is 50 minutes away by car or train, and the Mediterranean Sea is the same distance to the south. Mountain hikes in the Pyrenees and white-water kayaking in the upper Aude valley will delight the more sporty.

The house is situated on a small square with free parking equipped with an electric car terminal; the café, bakery, grocery shop, restaurants (Table Cathare and Occitan Burger), tearoom (Salon Bleuthé), pharmacy and tourist office are all less than 2 steps away. Doctors, nurses and physiotherapists in the village. Numerous hiking trails of all levels start from the foot of the house, including the GR78, the Pyrenean Pilgrim's Way to Santiago de Compostela. Children's playgrounds and tennis court 5 minutes' walk away. Fanjeaux is a dynamic village. An international exhibition of contemporary art is open to the public from mid-June to mid-September.

On the ground floor, a vast, fully-equipped kitchen-dining room is perfect for cooking and sharing meals. You can relax in the large lounge with its smart TV, library and CDs, or in the intimate family room with its board games. A bathroom with laundry facilities is also available. The first floor has the large master bedroom has a double bed, a small sitting area and a study.Children will love the Peter Pan dormitory, with its three single beds (baby travel cot, high chair), toy chest, books and comics. A bathroom is adjacent. The indoor patio is a quiet spot to enjoy your meals al fresco or simply relax in the southern sunshine.
