Madeira – A holiday on the island of flowers

Explore Madeira’s magnificent scenery and flora on your next holiday-home vacation. Warm temperatures prevail throughout the year because of the mild and consistent climate on the Portuguese island, and plant life blooms 365 days a year.

In addition to the beautiful countryside, a wide range of activities - which can be very easily undertaken from your holiday accommodation - await you on the Atlantic island. Funchal itself - the capital of Madeira – is waiting for you with numerous sights, such as the Ponta do Pargo lighthouse and Oscar Niemeyer's casino.

Madeira offers impressive hiking routes for all those who like to stay active. The choice is yours: you can either climb Pico Ruivo, Madeira’s highest mountain, visit the final resting place of Charles I, (the last Austrian Emperor who lived in exile on Madeira), or simply enjoy the heavenly paradise of the island’s natural scenery during your hike.

Jardim Tropical Palace in Monte

The famous "Jardim Tropical Palace" in Monte, a suburb of Funchal, is a well-known sight. It promises a pleasant walk, at the very least. The park offers a collection of tropical plants and animal species, as well as a museum with three galleries which present natural resources, statues, and sculptures from various countries.

Those who do not like hiking can sail out onto the sea instead, and keep a lookout for whales and dolphins on boat trips along the south coast. The catamaran ride takes about three hours, and departs from Funchal.

Seawater swimming pool made from volcanic lava in Porto Moniz

Of course, you should not miss out on some bathing fun during a holiday on Madeira. For example, you can visit the seawater swimming pool made of volcanic lava in Porto Moniz, or swim at the foot of Cabo Girao, one of the highest sea cliffs in Europe. And those who want to have some bathing fun right after getting up can simply rent a holiday home in Madeira with its own pool.

Food connoisseurs and gourmets will also get their money's worth on Madeira. Enjoy national dishes, such as the traditional "espetadas" shish kebabs, combined with the "bolo de caco" garlic bread, which is typical of Madeira. Wine lovers can also enjoy a selection of Madeira's exclusive wines – regardless of whether it’s in the evening in a restaurant or on the holiday home's own terrace.
