Groß Leuthen, idyllically situated on the lake of the same name, is a district of the municipality of Märkische Heide, which is located east of the Lower Spreewald, on the edge of the UNESCO Spreewald Biosphere Reserve. Far away from tourist centers, this is the perfect vacation destination to discover the unique nature of the region on foot, by bike or on the water. The Groß Leuthener See lake is ideal for swimming, fishing or boating (fishing permits and boat hire from the local fisherman), cyclists can explore the area on the „Gurkenradweg“ (cucumber cycle path), there is a family butcher's shop in the village and bread rolls are available at the nearby campsite. Further shopping facilities and sights can be found in Neu Lübbenau (approx. 11 km) or in Lübben (approx. 20 km), the famous Tropical Island can be reached by car in approx. 30 minutes.
